Allegation of Research Misconduct

AL-MURABBI: Jurnal Studi Kependidikan dan Keislaman is committed to maintaining academic integrity, scholarly honesty, and publication ethics. Allegations of research or publication misconduct are handled seriously, objectively, fairly, and on the basis of verifiable evidence.

1. Types of Misconduct

Allegations that may be investigated include, but are not limited to:

  1. Plagiarism or the use of others' work without appropriate acknowledgment.

  2. Data fabrication, involving the invention of data or research findings.

  3. Data falsification, involving the manipulation of research materials, processes, or results.

  4. Duplicate publication or simultaneous submission of the same manuscript to multiple journals in violation of applicable requirements.

  5. Authorship violations, including listing individuals without adequate contributions or omitting eligible authors.

  6. Citation manipulation, undisclosed conflicts of interest, or other research ethics violations.

2. Reporting Alleged Misconduct

Authors, reviewers, editors, readers, and other parties with relevant information may report suspected misconduct through the official contact channels provided on the AL-MURABBI website. Reports should identify the relevant article or manuscript, describe the alleged misconduct, and include available supporting evidence. The reporter may provide their identity where willing to do so.

Reports are handled carefully, with due regard for confidentiality and the protection of those involved. Anonymous reports may also be considered when they provide sufficient information and evidence for preliminary assessment.

3. Assessment and Clarification

The editor conducts an initial assessment to determine whether the allegation warrants further investigation. Where necessary, the editor may request explanations from the author or relevant parties, examine supporting documents, use text-similarity screening tools, or consult appropriate experts or institutions.

The person or party concerned is given a reasonable opportunity to respond before a decision is made, where practicable. Investigations are conducted objectively and proportionately, and no conclusion of misconduct is reached without sufficient evidence.

4. Editorial Actions

Depending on the findings, possible actions include:

  1. Closing the case when the allegation lacks sufficient supporting evidence.

  2. Requesting revisions or additional clarification where the issue can appropriately be resolved through correction.

  3. Rejecting a manuscript when misconduct is identified before publication.

  4. Publishing a correction, an expression of concern, or a retraction when a post-publication issue warrants such action.

  5. Contacting the relevant institution when serious allegations require further investigation.

Actions are determined according to the nature, seriousness, evidence, and impact of the alleged misconduct on the integrity of the scholarly record.

5. Confidentiality and Conflicts of Interest

Information obtained during an investigation is treated confidentially and shared only with parties who have a legitimate role in the process. Editors or reviewers with relevant conflicts of interest must not participate in the investigation or decision-making process. All parties are expected to act in good faith and must not misuse the reporting process to intimidate others or knowingly submit false allegations.

6. Relationship with Other Policies

Allegations of misconduct are handled in conjunction with AL-MURABBI's publication ethics, conflict of interest, correction and retraction, and other relevant editorial policies. Decisions must consider fairness to the parties involved and the protection of the integrity of the scholarly record.
