Praktik Konseling Individu Humanistik-Religius dalam Membantu Proses Taubat Mahasantri di Pesantren

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) play a strategic role in fostering students’ character and spirituality, including university-level students (mahasantri). However, during the transition from late adolescence to early adulthood, mahasantri are vulnerable to psychological and behavioral problems that require professional guidance. This study aims to describe the practice of individual counseling using a humanistic-religious approach in facilitating the repentance process of a mahasantri in a pesantren. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a best practice design based on a case study. The research subject was a mahasantri who experienced behavioral and spiritual problems. Data were collected through counseling interviews, observation, and documentation, and analyzed using a descriptive-interpretative technique. The findings indicate that individual counseling with a humanistic-religious approach positively contributes to increased self-awareness, emotional stability, behavioral change, and the development of repentance awareness. The integration of humanistic and religious approaches enables counseling to be conducted empathically while strengthening the spiritual dimension, making it relevant for implementation in pesantren education. This study is expected to provide practical contributions to the development of Islamic value-based counseling services in pesantren.
