Abstract

Abstract: This research aims to understand how the methodology or scientific approach of Jurgen Habermas's Emancipatory Education model relates to Islamic Religious Education. The research method uses a qualitative approach and a relevant literature review. Starting with an overview of Jurgen Habermas's biography and the emancipatory theory he created. Next, the researcher presents how the emancipatory model is implemented in Islamic Religious Education. With a descriptive approach and literature review, this research explores the relevance of Habermas's emancipation concept to the process of Islamic Religious Education (PAI), particularly in shaping critical thinking and tolerant attitudes among students. The analysis results show that Habermas's emancipatory theory can provide a philosophical foundation for dialogue-based PAI learning, thereby supporting the development of humanistic Islamic values that appreciate diversity. This article recommends implementing learning strategies integrating Habermas's emancipatory principles into the PAI curriculum to realize liberating and transformational education.
